Bay Women Association Network (BAYWAN)) is an international centre that supports and promotes non-violent approaches to conflict transformation through a combination of research and action that entails the strengthening of existing local capacities and enhancing preconditions for building peace.
General Terms of Reference
- Play a key role in the ongoing design, implementation, and monitoring of BAYWAN’s Somalia Programme 2020-2023, including the development of new projects.
- Provide quality support to BAYWAN’s partners to strengthen their peacebuilding engagement (conflict analysis, research, capacity development/facilitation, mediation and dialogue) and organisational development (including learning).
- Ensure regular presence and close accompaniment of BAYWAN’s partners across Somalia as part of programme implementation.
- Ensure timely and regular reporting on programme implementation to the immediate line manager and contribute to donor liaison and reporting.
- Actively contribute to the development and facilitation of various peacebuilding related trainings and workshops.
- Actively contribute to the design and implementation of relevant participatory research products as well as policy engagement with a range of policy actors and influencers in Somalia and abroad as per programme design, and as part of BAYWAN Somalia team.
- Share and document programme work, experiences and analysis to contribute to organisational monitoring, reflection and learning.
- Liaise and collaborate with other peacebuilders, civil society, administrations and academia at local, regional and international levels.
- Participate actively in relevant Somalia and Nairobi office team activities and meetings and cross-BAYWAN initiatives.
Education, knowledge and skills
- Professional experience in peacebuilding and conflict transformation programmes.
- University degree in peacebuilding, development studies or other relevant fields (political and social sciences). Bachelor with relevant skills and experience (5+ years) may be considered. Master’s preferred.
- Strong facilitation skills with experience in training and learning with a range of actors, including working with diverse groups. Interest and/or experience in methodology design is an advantage.
- Professional experience in participatory research design, development of tools, data collection, analysis and writing research outcomes and/or experience engaging policymakers and influencers at different levels (including drafting of policy briefs).
- Excellent analytical writer (English) with good documentation skills. Fluency in both spoken and written Somali language required.
- Demonstrated interest in peacebuilding field and NGO experience a strong asset.
- Able to travel to programme locations across South Central Somalia.
- Balanced, mature personality with developed diplomatic/ interpersonal skills.
- Able to cope with working in stressful environments.
- Eager and flexible mind, willing to acquire new skills on the job.
- The candidate does not require a work permit to work in Somalia.
